World Mental Health Day Victoria 2019
our event
Care-2-Share received a grant from Foundry Victoria to hold Victoria’s first World Mental Health Day Event on October 10th 2019. October 10th is an internationally recognized day for mental health awareness. This event was free and open to the public, and was gratefully held at the Victoria Public Market and on the traditional lands of the Lekwungen-Speaking Peoples, known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
We were fortunate to have a traditional welcome from Cecelia Dick of the Songhees Nation.
The event itself featured speakers, resource booths, snacks, a photobooth, a decompression zone, prizes, and giveaways.
We are very grateful for our youth speakers - Cam Webster and EJ Weston - who were with us from Stigma Free Society. Both young people with lived experience had spoken earlier in the day and shared with us about their journey with mental health and/or substance use.
We also had a mental health journey panel, which featured Dr. Joanna Cheek (CBT Skills Group), Ilia Fernandez (Mental Health Society of Greater Victoria), and Annie Smith (McCreary Centre Society).
We would like to thank all of the organizations that setup booths to share their resources with the community and engage in meaningful conversations:
